If you love the combo of sweet and spicy, these Air Fryer Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings are for you!

Crispy, sticky wings coated in a finger-licking sauce make these wings the ultimate appetizer!

We start off seasoning the wings with spices, then popping them in the air fryer.

When they’re golden and crispy, toss them in the honey sriracha sauce, then sprinkle on crushed red pepper flakes for the perfect fiery finish.

Sriracha and hot pepper flakes give them heat, while butter adds richness, and honey adds the perfect sweetness to round out the flavors!

Sweet heat + crispy air fried wings = the ultimate appetizer! Game day never tasted so good!

How to serve chicken wings

Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings are versatile because they make an excellent casual dinner or the perfect appetizer for parties and game day.

We eat them with carrot sticks and celery with ranch or blue cheese for dipping the veggies.

💡Tips & Tricks

  • Air fryer: Generally, I’m a big fan of air fryer liners for easy cleanup, but not with chicken wings. We want as much air circulation as possible, therefore, I don’t use liners with this recipe.
  • Fresh or Frozen wings: You can use either fresh or frozen chicken wings for this recipe. If using frozen wings, you’ll need to cook them twice in the air fryer. Once to defrost them, then again to get them crispy.
  • Crispy wings: Make sure to really pat the wings dry so they get nice & crispy. Also, don’t overcrowd the basket – air fried food gets crispy because of all the air circulation.
  • Heat: I would say the spice level of these wings is mild-medium (3 on a scale of 1-10). It’s a sweet heat that can be made hotter or more mild depending on the amount of sriracha and crushed red peppers used.
    • To make them spicier, you could increase the sriracha and add more red pepper flakes. You could also sprinkle a little cayenne in the sauce.

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • paper towels
  • Mixing bowl
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • baking sheet if making in the oven

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 pounds chicken wings fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2-3 tablespoons sriracha start with 2, add more if desired
  • crushed red pepper flakes to taste

Instructions

FRESH Chicken Wings

  • Preheat air fryer to 400℉ for at least 5 minutes.
  • Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels. Dry chicken wings= crispy chicken wings. Add wings to a mixing bowl and drizzle on olive oil. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and chili powder on the wings and use tongs to make sure it's evenly distributed.
  • Arrange wings in a single layer of the air fryer, making sure they are not crowded (depending on the size of your air fryer, this may take batches). Cook for 12 minutes*, then flip them over and cook another 10-12 minutes or until crispy.
*After you flip the wings and put them back in the air fryer, make the sauce by melting the butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then add the honey and sriracha. Stir to combine.
With clean tongs, toss the finished wings in the sauce and sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes on, to taste. Enjoy!

FROZEN Chicken Wings

  • Add frozen wings to air fryer. It's ok if they're frozen together, as long as they fit in the air fryer. Cook frozen wings at 400℉ for 10 minutes. This will mostly defrost them and start the cooking process.
  • Remove the wings from the air fryer and add to a mixing bowl. Drizzle on olive oil. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and chili powder on the wings and use tongs to make sure it's evenly distributed.
  • Arrange wings in a single layer of the air fryer, making sure they are not crowded (depending on the size of your air fryer, this may take batches). Cook for 10 minutes*, then flip them over and cook another 10 minutes or until crispy.
Enjoy!

Oven-Baked Chicken Wings

  • Preheat oven to 425℉ for at least 10-15 minutes.
  • Arrange chicken wings on a baking sheet. Feel free to line it with parchment paper or foil. Bake for 20 minutes*, turn them over, then bake another 20-25 minutes, or until they're nice & crispy.
*After you flip the wings and put them back in the oven, make the sauce by melting the butter in a microwave-safe bowl, then add the honey and sriracha. Stir to combine.
  • With clean tongs, toss the finished wings in the sauce and sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes on, to taste. Enjoy!

Notes

  • There are approximately 5-6 chicken wings in a pound.  The stated “4 servings” is based on each person having 3-4 wings.
  • If using frozen wings, the cook time will take 10 minutes longer.
  • Although great for some things, air fryer liners are not great for chicken wings as we want maximum airflow for maximum crispiness. I do not use liners in this recipe.
  • Be sure to not toss the wings in the sauce until after they’ve cooked as we don’t want to burn the honey.
