Ingredients needed for this recipe (scroll down to recipe card for complete recipe):

  • Nuts – I used unsalted roasted peanuts and raw almonds
  • Vegetable oil
  • Spices – ghost pepper powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, smoked paprika, sea salt

How spicy are these nuts?

Ghost peppers are one of the hottest peppers in the world, so these nuts are extremely spicy!

The ghost pepper has 855,000-1,000,000 SHU (Scoville heat units).

To compare, a jalapeno has around 2,500-8,000 SHU and a habanero has around 100,000-350,000 SHU.

How to serve roasted nuts

Roasted nuts make an excellent healthy snack!  Here are some ways to serve them:

  • Charcuterie/cheese boards with olives, crackers, and crudité
  • A great road trip or camping snack that doesn’t require refrigeration
  • Parties or holidays
  • In a spicy snack mix with Spicy Seasoned Pretzels
  • Keep them in an air-tight jar for everyday snacking

💡Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips to make sure your roasted nuts turns out perfectly:

  • Allow nuts to cool: The nuts won’t be crunchy right when they come out of the oven.  They need to completely cool and come to room temperature, then they’ll be crunchy.
  • Nuts: If you swap the nuts, I recommend using “raw” nuts.  Cashews would work well.
  • Heat: If you have an aversion to spicy food, this recipe isn’t for you.  However, you can reduce the ghost pepper powder to make them less spicy.
  • Spices: Fresh spices make the most flavorful nuts.  Make sure your spices aren’t old or expired.

How to store the nuts

Once the nuts have cooled completely (can take 30+ minutes), store them in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

They can be refrigerated for a longer shelf life.

It’s important that the nuts are room temperature when being stored, as warm nuts will create moisture in the container, making them go bad too soon.
