Air Fryer Roasted Garlic, the easiest way to make soft, spreadable, roasted garlic!
Unlike fresh garlic, roasted garlic imparts a rich, mellow garlic flavor that’s a great secret weapon in sauces, pasta, soups, butter, and anything you can think of!
We make salad dressings with it and love to add it to mayo for flavorful sandwich spreads. It’s also great on crostini with a variety of toppings for an easy snack or appetizer.
I provide instructions for making roasted garlic both in an air fryer (with and without foil) and in the oven, and it comes out great either way!
Fun Fact: Depending on the variety of garlic, there are around 12-20 cloves of garlic in a bulb.

How to Use roasted garlic
- Swirled in mashed potatoes
- Excellent in salad dressings and sauces
- Add to homemade hummus
- Roasted Garlic Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli
- Add to softened butter with herbs (great on baked potatoes, steaks)
- In soups or pastas for a special garlic flavor

💡Tips & Tricks
- Garlic: When buying garlic, look for bulbs that are firm. Avoid garlic with soft spots, black powdery residue or sprouts growing out.
- Olive oil: Don’t skip the olive oil; it keeps the garlic moist and prevents it from drying out and burning.

Air Fryer Roasted Garlic (Oven Method Included)
Equipment
- Air fryer
- foil (optional)
Ingredients
- 1 whole garlic bulb
- 1-2 teaspoons olive oil
- salt optional
Instructions
- Cut about 1/4" off the top of the garlic bulb, so that the tops of the garlic cloves are exposed. Drizzle olive oil all over the top of the exposed garlic, this keeps it moist, preventing it from burning. If desired, sprinkle a little salt on top. Wrap the bulb in foil and cook according to your preferred method below.
Air Fryer Instructions
- Heat air fryer to 375/380℉. Place wrapped bulb/bulbs in the air fryer. Cook for 20-25 minutes, checking on them at the 20-minute mark. The cloves should be golden when they're done. I always check them at the earliest time and add extra minutes if needed.
- When done, you can squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of the bulb. Uses for roasted garlic included in post. Enjoy!
Oven Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400℉. Place wrapped bulb/bulbs in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, checking on them at the 35-minute mark. The cloves should be golden when they're done. I always check them at the earliest time and add extra minutes if needed.
- When done, you can squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of the bulb. Uses for roasted garlic included in post. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can roast the garlic in an air fryer without foil. You’ll want to reduce the temperature to 350℉ and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until golden.
- Some air fryers only have 10-degree increments, which is why the temperature in the recipe says 375/380.
- Roasted garlic should keep in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
- Can be frozen in ice cube trays in olive oil to be recipe-ready.
