Did you also grow up on chicken flavored Rice-A-Roni?
I remember my mom making it when I was a kid. I loved the stuff!
It was my job to stir the rice while it browned in butter. I loved watching it turn golden brown right before my eyes!
Fast forward to now and I’m making my own homemade version of that nostalgic side dish, but without those weird brown noodle bits.
What gives Savory Chicken Rice its awesome chicken flavor is a combination of chicken broth and Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken bouillon paste.
I use Better than Bouillon in all my soups, as it adds a wonderfully authentic chicken flavor to whatever you’re using it in, so it’s perfect in this recipe!

Savory Chicken Rice
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 tbsp Better than Bouillon chicken flavor
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. dried minced onion
- 1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning
- couple dashes of white pepper
- couple grinds of fresh black pepper
- 1/2 tbsp. chopped fresh parley garnish
Instructions
- Add oil or butter and rice to a small sauce pan. Sauté on medium to medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring often so the rice doesn't burn. Once the rice starts to turn golden, add garlic, stir for a minute and then add the broth, Better than Bouillon, and spices. Bring to boil, stir, then reduce the heat to low, put the lid on and simmer for 18 minutes. Garnish with parsley. Enjoy!

Just perfect. I added a few diced shiitaki mushrooms and chopped up a stalk of green onion in addition and it’s just so good and comforting. I will be making again very soon!
