This recipe starts with a homemade hibiscus simple syrup which is made with dried hibiscus flowers, sugar, and water.

The hibiscus adds a wonderful floral/tart flavor that pairs wonderfully with fresh lime juice.

How to make this recipe

  1. First, you’ll need to make a batch of the hibiscus simple syrup that’s linked in the recipe card.
  2. Combine the simple syrup with fresh lime juice and water in a pitcher.  Stir and serve!  That’s it!
  3. It’s best to add ice to glasses and not to the pitcher of limeade so it doesn’t get watered down.

How to serve Hibiscus Limeade

If you want ice, it’s best to pour it over ice in a glass when serving, as ice will dilute the limeade in the pitcher.

I like to add a couple lime wheels to the pitcher.  One, it looks pretty, but it also gives your guests a hint at one of the flavors inside!

Half-moon slices of lime are a great way to garnish a glass.  Simply make a cut in the half-moon slice and put it on the rim of the glass.

💡Tips & Tricks

This recipe makes a delicious sweet-tart limeade.  You can adjust the recipe:

  • To make it more sweet: You could make extra hibiscus simple syrup, or add sugar water to the prepared limeade until you get your ideal sweetness.
  • To make it more tart: Add extra lime juice in increments until you achieve your ideal tartness.
  • Fresh is best: Use fresh limes, not bottled lime juice, which contains preservatives amongst other things.
  • Cocktail?  A splash of gin or vodka would be an excellent addition!

  • 1/2 cup hibiscus simple syrup
  • 3/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice (6-9 limes depending on how juicy they are)

Instructions

  • You'll need to have a batch of Hibiscus Simple Syrup ready (this can be done days before you want to make the limeade).
  • In a pitcher, combine the Hibiscus Simple Syrup, lime juice, and water. *If preferred, you can add the syrup and lime juice incrementally, until you achieve the sweet/sour flavor you're looking for. Stir to combine.
  • I like to add lime wheels to the pitcher for decor. Refrigerate until needed. Ice will dilute the limeade, so if desired, pour the limeade over ice in a glass. Enjoy!
