Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh green beans trimmed and cut in half
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil
  • 2-3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce (I use low sodium soy sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • toasted sesame seeds to taste
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Add green beans and water to a skillet with a lid. Bring water to a boil, then steam on medium heat for approximately 6-7 minutes. Don't have the heat too high or the water will evaporate too quickly.
  • Remove the lid and continue to cook on medium heat until all the water is mostly gone from the pan (2-3 minutes).
  • Add the olive/avocado oil and garlic to the pan. Sauté the garlic for 2 minutes, then add the soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes. Sauté for 2-3 minutes. The green beans should be tender-crisp. Taste for any needed salt & pepper and garnish with your desired amount of toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you don't have store-bought toasted sesame seeds, you can make your own by toasting sesame seeds in a dry skillet for a couple minutes until they're golden.
