A holiday party isn’t complete without dessert, and this Coconut Snowman Cheese Ball is the cutest perfect addition!

The inside of the cheese ball is made with powdered sugar and cream cheese.  It’s sweet, creamy, and so delicious!

The body of the snowman gets tossed in some sweetened flaked coconut, so it looks likes snow and has a light coconut flavor!

He has an almond nose, a candy ribbon for a scarf, and chocolate chips for eyes, a smile, and buttons.  He’s almost too cute to eat!

My Lemon Cheesecake Cheese Ball is a huge hit at parties, but for something more festive for the holidays, this Coconut Snowman Cheese Ball is perfect!

How to serve this dessert cheese ball?

We like to serve this coconut cheese ball on a large platter with a variety of dippers.

A cheese knife beside it is helpful for those that would like to scoop some out on a plate.

Some of our favorite dippers are:

  • Chocolate covered pretzels
  • Nilla Wafers
  • Animal crackers
  • Shortbread cookies
  • Graham crackers
  • Chocolate Teddy Grahams

How long will the cheese ball last?

The cheese ball should last up to 4 days in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.

Can I make it in advance?

Yes!  Feel free to make it a day or two in advance, but make sure to cover it tightly with plastic wrap, foil, or in an air-tight container.

NOTES:

  • I prefer full fat cream cheese because it has a richer taste and smoother texture than the reduced fat version, which may have a slightly grainy texture.
  • Coconut extract is a totally optional ingredient.  If you LOVE coconut, it really amps up the coconut flavor, however the cheese ball is still delicious without it.
  • I don’t add sweetened coconut flakes to the inside of the snowman because it’s already sweet, but feel free to add some if you desire.

Equipment

Ingredients

Snowman Body

  • 16 oz full-fat cream cheese (2 bricks) softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 tsp OPTIONAL: coconut extract use if you want a stronger coconut flavor, otherwise it's great as-is

Snowman Accessories

  • candy rope the scarf
  • 1 almond the nose
  • 9-10 chocolate chips the eyes, smile, and buttons

Instructions

  • Add softened cream cheese and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl. If you're using the coconut extract, add that too.
  • Using a hand mixer, beat the mixture until it's incorporated nicely. I like to use a rubber spatula and scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl to make sure everything is combined well.
  • Separate the mixture into two sections in your bowl. One should be 1/3 of the mixture (the snowman head), and the other should be 2/3 of the mixture (the snowman body).
  • With a rubber spatula or large spoon, form each section into a roundish shape. It doesn't have to be perfect, it will be easier to shape after it's cold. Put a lid on the mixing bowl or wrap with foil and refrigerate it for about an hour.
  • I don't buy plastic wrap, so I do this with my hands. Pick up the first section and roll it into a ball (it will be sticky), then toss in the shredded coconut. Place the first ball on your serving platter. Repeat steps for second section, attaching the body to the head.
  • Gently smoosh the cheese balls down to make the snowman flatter. Add chocolate chips for eyes, smile, and buttons. Add an almond for the nose. Take your candy rope or licorice and tuck it behind his neck to secure it in place. Serve with your favorite dippers! Enjoy!

Notes

  • I've made this with and without coconut extract.  Without, it doesn't have a strong coconut flavor, but it's delicious!  The coconut extract really amps up the coconut flavor, but it's not a "toasted coconut" flavor, it's more like a pina colada.  This ingredient is optional because it's great with or without depending on how much coconut flavor you want.
  • For the best texture, I recommend full-fat cream cheese.
  • If you can't find candy rope, licorice or gummy tape and be cut and manipulated into a scarf.
