Spiced Apple Cranberry Warm Rum Punch

If you don’t already know, I’m a California girl.  A Southern California girl to be specific, so my new home in freezing-cold-Virginia is a drastic change for me. 

There’s actually a real fall here, you know when leaves fall on the ground and it feels like Antarctica in November. 

I had to trade in my favorite hoodie for a real winter coat, and I haven’t gotten out of my Ugg boots since the beginning of October!  Needless to say, it’s been COLD!

Besides the drop in temperature, leaves falling on the ground, and perhaps Starbucks releasing their Pumpkin Spiced Latte, nothing screams “fall” more than apple cider. 

We all know that cinnamon is apple’s best friend, but did you know that apple cider + cranberry, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh orange, and some spiced rum = Spiced Apple Cranberry Warm Rum Punch, a perfect cold weather drink? 

You know what’s better than holding a nice warm mug between your two cold hands? 

Drinking Apple Cranberry Warm Rum Punch in said mug.  Just sayin.

  • Apple cider
  • Cranberry juice cocktail
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Nutmeg
  • Orange
  • Apple
  • Spiced rum

When to serve Warm Rum Punch?

This cocktail is absolutely perfect during the weekend while you curl up to a fire, but your holiday guests will especially love the warm, festive flavors permeating through the air! 

This cozy, warm punch is perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve, Tuesday nights, you name it.  

How to serve this Apple Cranberry Rum Cocktail?

Because this cocktail is designed to be warm, a slow cooker’s warm setting is ideal for keeping this drink warm.  However, a very low heat on the stove will work too.

I like to serve each mug with an apple slice or two because they look nice and taste great.  

A great snack for serving with this drink is Cinnamon Pumpkin Mini Muffins (shown below)!  They’re full of delicious fall flavors and complement this drink perfectly!

What kind of rum is best for this warm cocktail?

Spiced rum is perfect in this cocktail because it compliments the apple cider, cinnamon and nutmeg so well.

I use Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum because it has a higher alcohol content than other brands.

Equipment

  • Large pot or slow cooker

Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 apple sliced
  • 1 orange peel & juice
  • 1 cup spiced rum

Instructions
 

  • Stove Method: Place apple cider, cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and the sliced apple in a stockpot. With a vegetable peeler, peel the orange rind into long strips if you can (it looks pretty) put them in the pot and then squeeze the juice of the orange into the pot as well. Heat to high and once it's about to boil, reduce heat to simmer and simmer for about 20 minutes while the cinnamon sticks work their magic. When you are getting ready to serve, add the rum, stir, and enjoy!
  • Slow Cooker Method: Add everything but the rum to your slow cooker and set it on "high".  Let the cinnamon sticks to their thing for about an hour, then switch to "keep warm". Add the rum, stir to combine. Enjoy!
