Lemon reigns supreme on my list of favorite flavors.  After it, a delicious, garlicky cream sauce.  This delicious recipe for Slow Cooker Creamy Lemon Chicken has both!

The tang of fresh lemon juice combined with fresh garlic, zesty lemon pepper, creamy butter, and rich cream cheese makes the ultimate, creamy lemon chicken!

This slow cooker chicken is perfect served with rice, orzo, pasta, mashed potatoes, or roasted veggies!

Another great thing about this recipe is how easy it is to make!  Using a slow cooker makes this a quick-fix meal that you can throw together in no time.

How to make Slow Cooker Creamy Lemon Chicken

  1. Simply add your chicken to a slow cooker with fresh garlic, lemon pepper seasoning, and fresh lemon juice.
  2. Top the chicken with butter and cream cheese and let it cook.
  3. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and set it aside.
  4. Use a silicone whisk (so you don’t scratch the ceramic) to break up the cream cheese and incorporate it with the liquids in the slow cooker until it’s nice and smooth.
  5. Shred or chop your chicken to your desired texture and add it back to the slow cooker with the sauce. (complete instructions below)

How to serve Creamy Lemon Chicken

This delicious chicken is excellent served over your favorite starch with a vegetable or salad.

Some great options are: orzo, rice, mashed potatoes, and spaghetti.  If you’re watching carbs, cauliflower rice would be great!

Garlic bread or a nice hunk of crusty bread also pair wonderfully with this flavorful chicken!

Optional garnishes: parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper flakes, chopped fresh parsley, lemon slices.

How to store leftover chicken

Store leftover chicken in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

Freezing is not recommended because of the dairy in this recipe.  The texture of the sauce may change when being reheated.

Substitutions

Chicken – If desired, you can replace the boneless chicken breasts for boneless chicken thighs, but they may not take as long to cook.

Cream cheese – I would not substitute reduced fat cream cheese for regular.  The lower fat versions do not melt as nicely and may change the texture of the sauce.

Lemon juice – Real lemon juice is a must in this recipe, so I wouldn’t replace lemons with the juice in store-bought, plastic lemons.

NOTES:

  • The lemon pepper I use contains salt, so I do not add any extra salt to the dish.  If yours is salt-free, feel free to add salt to your taste.
  • This recipe is bright and tangy, while being creamy at the same time.  To make it less tangy, replace some of the lemon juice with chicken broth.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tbsp lemon pepper
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice (approx 2-3 lemons)
  • 8 oz full fat cream cheese
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 5 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • Place chicken in slow cooker and sprinkle lemon pepper over it. My lemon pepper has salt in it. If yours doesn't, add your desired amount of salt.
  • Add the garlic and fresh lemon juice to the chicken. Top the chicken with butter and cream cheese and cook it on low for 4 hours.
  • Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and set it aside. Use a silicone whisk (so you don't scratch the ceramic) to break up the cream cheese and incorporate it with the liquids in the slow cooker until it's nice and smooth.
  • Shred or chop your chicken to your desired texture and add it back to the slow cooker with the sauce. Excellent served with orzo, rice, pasta, and roasted vegetables.
Optional garnishes: parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper flakes, minced parsley. Enjoy!
