Double Chocolate Banana Muffins
I have a recipe for Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins that I love and make all the time.
My eldest son and I eat them for breakfast and snacks, and I put them in his school lunch box for a homemade treat.
As good as those muffins are, my youngest child does not like the flavor of banana, AT ALL, so those are a no-go for him.
The good mom that I am wanted to trick him into eating a banana muffin without him even knowing it.
These Double Chocolate Banana Muffins look like chocolate and taste like chocolate, so they must be chocolate!
My trickery worked because my banana-loathing son LOVES these Chocolate Banana Muffins! I mean, “double chocolate muffins”.
The banana flavor definitely takes a back seat to the chocolate, but there is a nice hint of it; and don’t forget the moist texture the banana adds to the finished product!
These white chocolate raspberry muffins and oatmeal banana muffins are more great muffin recipes!

NOTES:
- I also made this recipe using a mini muffin pan. It makes approximately 30 mini muffins. To use a mini muffin pan, adjust the cooking times from 5 minutes at 425° to 3 minutes, and from 10-12 minutes at 375 to 8 minutes.
- I like the chocolate chips to be nice and melty inside the muffin, so I heat my next-day muffins in the microwave for about 10 seconds to get that fresh-from-the-oven melty chocolate goodness.

Double Chocolate Banana Muffins
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2-3 extremely ripe bananas mashed
- 3 tbsp vanilla yogurt
- 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°. Prepare muffin cups with either cooking spray or liners.
- With a hand or stand mixer, mix the oil and sugar together until smooth, then add the eggs, vanilla, banana, and yogurt. Mix until combined.
- Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until combined, being careful not to over mix. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Fill muffin cups all the way. Bake at 425° for 5 minutes, then turn down oven to 375 (you don't need to take out muffins, just change the temperature of the oven) then and continue baking for 10-12 minutes or until fully cooked. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe was tweaked from Just So Tasty.
- Next day muffins are great when popped in the microwave for 10-12 seconds so the chocolate chips get nice and melty.

My question is: can I substitute vanilla yogurt with sour cream?
It should be fine, but I never bake with fat-free dairy, so that would be my only recommendation :)
My kids love these!! I added an extra tbsp. of vanilla yogurt.
